City of Seattle

Heating Rebates

The City of Seattle's Clean Heat Rebate Program makes it easy to reduce pollution, lower heating bills, and enjoy efficient home cooling. Qualifying households can receive a $2,000 instant rebate when switching from oil heating to an energy-efficient Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pump. This rebate can be combined with a $2,000 federal tax credit*, and eligible households may qualify for an additional $4,000 bonus rebate. That's up to $8,000 in total savings!

*Note: Congress passed a law in July 2025 that terminates the $2,000 tax credit on December 31, 2025. Heat pumps need to be installed before this date to qualify for the federal tax credit.

How to Participate

  • Step 1: Contact participating contractors (like CM Heating!) to get a free in-home estimate.
  • Step 2: Fill out the Homeowner Participation Form, provide it to your contractor, and install your equipment.
  • Step 3: Decommission your oil tank (either fill in place or remove) according to the Seattle Fire Code. This ensures oil doesn't sit unused in your tank, risking future leaks. Read more about this here.
