Improve Indoor Air Quality with HVAC Air Scrubbers
An HVAC air scrubber improves indoor air quality (IAQ). If you have allergies or respiratory issues, we recommend letting our IAQ experts install the latest equipment in your home. At CM Heating, we install advanced air scrubbers to free your indoor air of dust, allergens, and airborne pathogens.
Indoor air contamination can be several times more concentrated than outside. This is a concern because people spend most of their time indoors. However, an AC or furnace air scrubber can eliminate worries over exposure to pollutants such as pollen, dust, mold, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), vehicle exhaust, smoke, and others.
An air scrubber takes air purification to a new level. The difference between an air scrubber and an air purifier is its ability to eliminate harmful particles. A built-in high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) pre-filter traps tiny particles ranging from dust to smoke. Using a catalytic process, ions are released to bind to airborne particles, while some units also integrate ultraviolet (UV) light to neutralize bacteria, viruses, and other organic pollutants in the air.
CM Heating installs HVAC air scrubbers to improve indoor air quality in homes across Snohomish County, North King County, and Skagit County, WA
We offer a full line of whole-house air purification solutions that are conveniently installed in your HVAC system ductwork or plenum. They use a Dual-Radiant™ UVC “H” Lamp that neutralizes airborne pathogens and odors. Several lamp sizes are available with micro-watt ratings that translate to effectiveness. These include the following:
16” UVC Lamps: Produce 180 microwatts at 1 meter.
12” UVC Lamps: Produce 150 microwatts at 1 meter.
A 7” inch lamp is also available. We can provide an air scrubber with a 5” UVV lamp as well, which uses oxidation and produces ozone for gas phase and odor control.
Our Everett air quality solutions include 120/240 volt, remote-mount germicidal systems that also include the following features:

Long-Lasting Lamps:
The lamps need replacement only every two years. One lamp controls organic pollutants and a second lamp removes odors and oxidizes gases. The UVC lamps have an ASHRAE-compliant 26” irradiation zone.
Heat Sink Housing:
This improves reliability and enables the unit to operate at higher temperatures by dissipating heat from electronic components.
Voltage Compensation:
Each unit features an auto-sensing ballast. It compensates for 120 to 277VAC at 50/60Hz.
Efficient Operation:
Installation of these HVAC air scrubbers results in a low static pressure drop. Therefore, the blower can continue running efficiently.
Warranty:
All electronic components are covered by a limited lifetime warranty. Each lamp is warranted against defects for up to two years.
Quick Installation::
The air scrubber requires no ductwork modifications and installs in just minutes. It accommodates an up to 10-ton air handling unit.
Simple Maintenance:
Each lamp is rated for 18,000 hours; replacements are available. Status can be tracked via LED power and lamp monitors.
How Are a Unit’s Germicidal Properties Determined?
All UV light can manage organic contamination. However, UVC light energy at 200 to 280 nanometer wavelengths has the most effective germicidal properties. At UVA and UVB wavelengths, neutralizing microorganisms takes longer and the light source must be closer to them.
Where Is the HVAC Air Scrubber Installed?
An air scrubber can be installed in the coil if the goal is to clean just the coil surface. Installation on the return side is best for inactivating viruses and bacteria. Therefore, airborne pathogens never reach the coil or the air you breathe. If there are space constraints, the unit can be installed on the supply side and still be effective.
Is a UV Air Scrubber Compatible with a Mini-Split?
Mini-split units have a plastic housing that can be damaged by UV light. Some air purification equipment uses LED lights, which are less effective as a germicidal solution but won’t damage the plastic material.
Can the UV Light Cause Any Damage?
It depends on the surface materials near the light source. Consult with your HVAC equipment manufacturer about this and if there are any UV-sensitive coatings. Exposure to UV light can damage flex ducts, pleated filters, plastic drain pans, wire coatings, and plastics.
Does the Unit Stay on Constantly?
A UVC-only HVAC air scrubber can cycle on and off but doesn’t have to cycle with the fan. Models with both a UVC lamp and an ozone lamp must operate with the fan cycle.
Benefits of an Air Scrubber
An air scrubber can be a valuable addition to your home. By having our team install one, the following benefits are possible:
Reduced Contamination
Air scrubbers help remove all the contaminants brought indoors from your shoes, clothes, and hands or that blow in unnoticed.
Decreased Odors
Unpleasant odors from the kitchen, pets, and elsewhere are removed by eliminating their source.
Fewer Allergy Symptoms
An air scrubber can help relieve sneezing, coughing, and itchy and watery eyes as well as fatigue and sleep difficulties.
Quiet Performance
Most air scrubbers emit very little noise, so won’t disrupt sleep or concentration on important tasks.
Increased HVAC Lifespan
Air scrubbers can prevent filters from getting blocked, so your HVAC system is less likely to be damaged or require costly repairs. It can also run more efficiently, reducing your energy bills.
